NDIS government funding and disability support services are available to those with a disability caused by a permanent impairment. This impairment could be either physical, sensory, neurological, intellectual, or psychosocial.
To define disability, there are 4 categories. The two most well-known are behavioural or emotional and physical disabilities. The other two categories are developmental and sensory impaired disorders.
Medical conditions that cause permanent impairment are considered to be a disability in terms of the NDIS. Some key examples include cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, genetic conditions like Angelman syndrome that result in permanent impairment, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord or brain injury, and permanent blindness or deafness.
If you have a health condition such as arthritis, you may be eligible for disability services covered by NDIS funding. However, this depends on the severity of your physical disability and how it affects your everyday life. You may need to undergo further functional assessment before being approved as part of a physical disability group.
