In order to qualify for the NDIS, individuals must be aged between 9 and 65 to receive support. Families with children who are younger than 9 can receive help from the early childhood approach provided by the NDIS. Those older than 65 can seek alternative support provided by the Australian Governemnt.
You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident in Australia to receive help from the NDIS. You also need to have a disability caused by an impairment to qualify for support.
Individuals with level 2 autism spectrum disorder (ASD) will automatically qualify as an NDIS participant. This ensures a moderate level of support is accessible so that people with level 2 ASD can receive the necessary help.
Individuals can choose to stay with the NDIS for their entire life, ensuring continual support with the flexibility to opt out at any time. However, if you are no longer eligible for NDIS support you are obliged to leave.
